Weekend Eye Candy - Balenciaga, 1950

 Have you started to think about a coat for winter yet?  Balenciaga designed this coat in 1950.  He called this the "melon" sleeve.  That thick gray wool is gathered about as tightly as it can be into the sleeve cuff.

Weekend Eye Candy - Coralie Coat, 1945

I don't know much about the French designer Coralie other than to tell you she was working in Paris in 1945 as the French couture was emerging from the war years.  This maroon wool coat is elaborately decorated with loops and swirls in the same fabric.  Incredible!

Weekend Eye Candy - Geoffrey Beene Coat, 1965

Are you thinking about a coat for this winter yet?  If so, today's Eye Candy is sure to make you swoon.  This Mod era coat by Geoffrey Beene dates to about 1965.  The wool gabardine fabric is printed in a design that references the work of French artist Jean Dubuffet.  Simple black buttons down the front don't distract from the design.  This coat is part of the Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection.

Those of you who are Couture Allure fans on Facebook know that I am leaving this weekend on my dream trip to Paris. I'll be gone for the next several days, but I have blog posts all lined up for your entertainment and inspiration while I'm away. I'll try to post pictures of Paris on Facebook if I can.

If I owned this Samuel Robert metallic gold leather coat from 1956, you can bet it would be going with me to Paris. For now, it will have to be a new dream.
