Japan Earthquake

Japan Earthquake
The epicenter of the new Japan earthquake occurred near the east coast of Honshu, Japan, the same epicenter as the deadly March 11, 2011 earthquake.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the earthquake at 6.7 magnitude on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 9:50 PM UTC (actual time in Japan was at 6:50 AM on Thursday, June 23).

Three (3) minutes after the 6.7 magnitude earthquake, the Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami warning for Iwate Prefecture located in the Tōhoku region of Honshū island in Japan.

The height of the tsunami was expected to be about 0.5 meters and arrival was expected between 7:00 and 7:20AM.

The tsunami warning was later cancelled at 7:45 AM.

The June 23, 2011 earthquake is already the 3rd strongest since the March 11, 2011 earthquake which registered at 9.1 magnitude.

The other two strong quakes occurred last April 7 and 11, both at 7.1 magnitude.
