Selfridges 'Mass Conservation' Window Display

First Law of Thermodynamics says energy cannot be created or destroyed, but can be transformed from one form to another.

I think that is the principle that Selfridges based on when they created the latest installation of their window displays curated by Kyle Bean. But instead of using the word 'energy' the artist uses 'matter', which more or less gave the same idea since both can't be created/destroyed. (If you learn chemical engineering, these words are at your finger tips really).

Anyway, what is interesting about the'blink art' installation is the way they portray the equality between two sides of the 'equation' showing how you can transform a plain thing into a new life form. For example, a medium brown box is transformed into a swivel chair. There's also a 'box' of hundreds of aluminum cans on one side of a scale that is balanced by a smaller cube made of similar amount of cans that has been crushed (just like the one that you see at recycling plant). And there's this fairy tale castle being made of some story books which is utterly beautiful. For the bike lovers, you can also see how smaller items like the tyres, shaft, gears and etc... etc can actually morphed into a beautiful Honda motorbike.

IMO this kind of art installation is provoking people to think that there is more to life than what you see a normal item is. In other way it might also inspire people to reuse things, for instance in the case of the brown box. Who knows, with a little bit of DIY you can even made a sofa out of the shoe boxes that has been littering around your closet! Brilliant...

Anyway, on the Oxford Street side it's always about fashion. They keep it minimum this time with just one item that stand out to make a statement. Like the Burberry shearling aviator jacket that is so splendid, to the lacy Julien McDonald dress, Stella McCartney frock, YSL shearling stillettos etc... etc. And there's also a snakeskin high heels that really 'pops' in that neon halo (by which I can't recall who's it from).

Selfridges window display is always awesome and entertaining!
