Love it or loathe it, designer bags seems to be the choice of many fashionistas. Some would cost quite a couple of weeks rent, while other could make u bankrupt. As Winter Sale is now ongoing, many fashionista as well as economista took the chance to snap the designer bags at the fraction of the original price.
Well, couple of days ago took me to some stores like Selfridges @ Oxford St and Matches and Conran Shop @ Marylebone High St. To check the so-called designer bags on sale. My verdict? Mix messages. Some are to die for, some is ok while some...hmm.. just keep on reading.
- Alexander McQueen Tote
I know Bill Amberg makes good design. This rucksack look pretty cool in pictures, with the delicious banana yellow canvas and leather trim in beige. But when I got my hands on it @ Conran Shop, it looks so damn dull! The design is kinda ok, but the canvas looks cheap, and could catch dirt easily.
- Pierre Hardy Holdall
Pierre Hardy quite a famous designer. I used to buy his limited edition white leather sandal at GAP which is pretty cool (but have to return later on due to the pigskin lining). But this bag.. is S.H.I.T.E! Color is hideous, leather is damn bad and the design is too boxy resembling an ice box. Again, seen it at Matches store.. too overpriced for a piece of shit (£338 , down from £690).
- Paul Smith Holdall
Another respectable designer. Paul Smith like to try something different like the holdall with the Mini print, the Stamp bags and the 'Net' holdall. This one is also one of a kind, though not that outstanding. Quite practical due to it's medium size. The cherry color textured leather look good. Yet, too overpriced (£338, down from £490) at Matches.
- Mulberry Roxanne
Mulberry is one of infamous British labels, alongside Burberry. I saw this medium tote bag @ Selfridges, but quite amused why it is located on the men's department. This one is surely for women not just it's color and overall outlook, but the material. It's vinyl. Yet, still look smashing on any lady who bag it. Pretty light and cheap, given the famous brandname and design (£276, down from £387).
- Mulberry Warren
Another Mulberry bag, and this one is for men. Overall design is acceptable, with roomy main compartments and two front zipped pockets. The color is damn gorgeous(sorry, I love white!), and the texture of the grained leather.. oh so soft. Was hoping it could be a tote bag instead (my messanger bag days are finally over ;)). This medium messanger bag is at almost half price @ Selfridges (£250, down from £440).
So, love it or loathe it... some will go to a great length just to own a designer bags (including moi). While some snap the bag for its design, other who are merely 'blind' fashionista would rather go for the brand instead, despite the hideous design. As the wordings said, one man's meat is another man's poison.
P/S: Me would choose design rather than just brand!
